Human Genome, Stress and Creative Musical Expression
Featured at Lincoln Center

Live Performance and Keynote Presentation

Date: October 30, 2009

New York - Barry Bittman, MD, CEO of the Yamaha Music and Wellness Institute performs the keynote address at Lincoln Center’s Music and the Brain symposium presented by the Cleveland Clinic Arts & Medicine Institute.  With integrated live performances by prodigious composer/pianist Jarrod Radnich and world-renowned soprano, Patti Cohenour, Bittman presents his research on stress and the human genome in the context of creative musical expression to demonstrate the phenomenal impact of disclosure on the healing process.

“In ancient times music and medicine were integrally related,” noted Bittman.  “Through this unique symposium and the collaborative initiatives of the Cleveland Clinic, guest faculty and artists, a resurgence of interest in music as a clinical tool in healthcare is setting the stage for the utilization of integrative expressive strategies that can enable people to maximize quality of life despite extraordinary health challenges.”

Jarrod Radnich is a musical prodigy, composer, producer, and educator. He became a Yamaha Recording Artist at 19 and recorded over 60 albums in two years.  He collaborated with Craig Knudsen and created StarLIGHTS—Hal Leonard’s best selling music book/software series.  Radnich co-created two shows with Knudsen for Disney’s recent renovation of Tomorrowland, where 4,000 people a day see Radnich perform in HD Video while a Disklavier Grand Piano reproduces every performance live at Disneyland.  At 23, Radnich became President and Artistic Director of the Hi-Desert Cultural Center in Joshua Tree, CA, and is developing the Center into an advanced school for the arts with state-of-the-art recording and performing arts facilities.

Patti Cohenour originated the following Broadway roles:
Signora Naccarelli and the Margaret Johnson Alternate in Lincoln Center’s production of “The Light in the Piazza”
Mother Abbess in the 1997 Revival “The Sound of Music”
Christine Daae’ in “The Phantom of the Opera” (and the 1991 Canadian First National Tour)
Rosabud in “The Mystery of Edwin Drood” (and the West End production at the Savoy Theatre, London, UK)
